West Virginia reciever/returner Preston Fox will be retiring from football, he announced on social media Monday.
Fox, a Morgantown native, was originally a walk-on at WVU before earning a scholarship in the spring of 2022. Now, after his redshirt junior year, he has decided to hang it up.
“I wanted to come on here and thank everyone for all the support throughout my career! I have decided to stop playing football for many reasons, but personally it’s time for me to move on,” Fox wrote in a post to X (formerly Twitter). “West Virginia has made my dreams of earning a scholarship come true, but not only earn a scholarship but compete at the highest collegiate level. Everything comes to an end at some point, but my life is just starting. Thank You West Virginia! Once a Mountaineer, Always a Mountaineer.”
Over the course of his career, Fox has caught 43 passes for 548 yards and three touchdowns, with all career-highs in 2023. As a returner, he’s returned 37 punts for 301 yards with a long of 29 and 19 kickoffs for 476 yards with a long of 43.
