Friday morning, West Virginia’s Edward Vesterinen, Jahiem White, and Rodney Gallagher all announced their intentions to remain with WVU for the 2025 season on X (formerly Twitter).
While the three never entered the transfer portal, it may be difficult who is staying and going in this day’s college football. With the leadership change in the football program, this transfer portal cycle saw a lot of activity for the Mountaineers.
Vesterinen, one of the key contributors on the defensive line in 2023, suffered a season-ending injury in just the second game this season. In his career with WVU, he’s collected 47 total tackles (16 solo) and 4.5 sacks.
Gallagher and White, two efficient offensive pieces, were both a part of the same recruiting class in 2023. White broke out in 2023, following it up with another solid season in 2024. While Gallagher took a step forward more than doubling his scrimmage yards from his freshman season and collecting his first three scores.
The news may be seen as a positive sign for Rich Rodriguez in his first season back at the helm in Morgantown, retaining a solid core of players who can help the team in different ways.
