More details involving the official contract of Rich Rodriguez to return as the head football coach at WVU have been coming out in the recent days.
Per a post on X from WVU reporter Justin Jackson, the contract signed by Rodriguez is a five year deal totaling $18.5 million. According to Jackson, the contract also states that should Rodriguez leave WVU for another job before his contract is up, Rodriguez would have to pay the school 25% of what remains in his contract within 90 days.
That clause comes in the contract this time around for Rodriguez after the head coach controversially left WVU back in 2007 for Michigan after promising fans he would stay.
In the contract, Jackson also states that the buyout clause for firing Rodriguez would result in the school having to pay Rodriguez 50% of what is left on the contract. That is significantly lower than the percentage in former head coach Neal Brown’s contract.
The final piece of information that Jackson shared about the contract is that WVU payed Jacksonville State $1.25 million to buyout Rodriguez from his former school.
