Rich Rodriguez reflects on Backyard Brawl’s importance

WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez was asked how important the Backyard Brawl is to himself and WVU during his introductory press conference.

The Backyard Braw between West Virginia and Pitt is one of the more prominent and historic rivalries in college football history. Pitt leads the brawl 63-41-3 all time.

The newly announced head coach has had some past history in the brawl, Rich Rodriguez had a 4-3 record in the game, the one that looms larger than all is the 2007 game between the two teams before Rodriguez would leave for the Michigan job.

In Friday’s press conference Rodriguez was asked how important the rivalry was to himself and WVU as a whole.

“It can’t make it big enough; it’s the biggest we play every year,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez also mentioned multiple times during his press conference that he often thinks about the 2007 loss.

WVU and Pitt now play yearly again, so Rodriguez will have a new opportunity next season to get back at Pitt.
