Tony Gibson was named the next head coach at Marshall on Sunday.
Gibson worked under Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia as a defensive backs coach from 2001-2007 and then returned to WVU to be a safeties coach in 2013 and defensive coordinator/linebackers coach from 2014-2018, being promoted to associate head coach in 2016 under Dana Holgorsen.
Following Holgorsen’s departure, Gibson became a defensive coordinator at NC State, where he has been ever since. Marshall needed a head coach after Charles Huff took the job at Southern Miss.
Marshall is coming off a Sun Belt Championship win on Saturday. They are now 10-3 on the season.
