WVU athletic director Wren Baker spoke to the media earlier Monday about the current state of WVU athletics during the search for a new head coach for the football team.
WVU is looking for a new face to lead the football team after moving on from Neal Brown. Baker discussed how the revenue sharing will help with the head coaching search.
“We have a pretty good idea what that range will be, but the way that settlement is it is based of the last financial which we are submitting now; once they go through the process of being validated and all of that, there’s a little bit of unknown but we pretty well know within a certain range of where it’s going to be,” Baker said on Tuesday
Once the revenue sharing is settled and Baker and the rest of the staff can finalize the amount of money, each program will get, the picture of the tier of coach they are looking for will become clearer.
“From a revenue-share perspective, We do expect to be at or near the full participation in Rev share, so once we determine that football number there’s a substantial amount in rev share, that a big part of the job, it wasn’t a few years ago but understanding how to use what is, in essence, a salary cap is a really important part of what you want,” Baker said.
Baker also made it clear that the Mountaineers will take their time and work diligently to find their next coach.
“Be quick, but don’t hurry, I understand the quicker we can get this search done, the better position we put the staff in. However, you can’t misfire and get it wrong because you were rushing,” Baker said.
