WVU running back CJ Donaldson talked after the UCF game about what it means to him to get to play in his first bowl game.
West Virginia got their sixth win of the season over UCF on Saturday in a 31-21 win. They have received bowl eligibility for the second consecutive year.
The running game for WVU was dominant in the win over UCF with 205 team rushing yards, led by Junior CJ Donaldson, who ran for 96 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns.
Donaldson will get the opportunity to play in his first bowl game after missing the Duke’s Mayo Bowl last year with an injury requiring surgery.
“It was definitely important, my first two years, my first year we didn’t make a bowl, and last year I kind of watched, you know, to have the opportunity to play in the playoffs with those guys, Wyatt (Milum), Tomas (Rimac), and (Brandon) Yates and the rest of the O-line, thankful to have another opportunity to play behind those guys,” Donaldson said when talking about how important it was to clinch bowl eligibility.
Donaldson has been a big part of the Mountaineer’s offense for the last three years, scoring at least eight touchdowns in each of his three seasons with WVU.
West Virginia will travel to take on Texas Tech at Noon EST, on Saturday to conclude the 2024 regular season.
