Offensive lineman Nick Malone will step foot onto Mountaineer Field one last time Saturday afternoon and will be honored for Senior Day against UCF.
Malone joined the Mountaineers in 2019 as a walk-on after de-committing from Pitt. He is a Morgantown native and attended Morgantown High School. He redshirted his first season. During the 2020 COVID year, he saw limited action, only playing in two games.
As a redshirt freshman in 2021, he spent significant time on the field, playing in all 13 games and earning his first career start against Oklahoma State.
Malone played in all 12 games of the 2022 football season. He even earned honors such as the 2022 Tommy Nickolich Award winner, signifying WVU’s most outstanding walk-on, and was awarded a scholarship.
In 2023, Malone started in four of the 13 games he played. He was used on 390 offensive snaps and 113 on special teams. On the offensive line, he led the Power 5 in rushing yards per game and was ranked No. 3 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed.
Malone earned the starting job at right tackle prior to this season and has seen the field in all 10 games so far. He currently leads the team with 45 knockdown blocks.
One of Malone’s greatest memories from his time at WVU is visiting the Children’s Hospital on Fridays before game day. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general business in May 2023 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in business administration.
