West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene will suit up for his last home game as a Mountaineer and will be honored for Senior Day on Saturday against UCF.
Greene was one of head coach Neal Brown’s first commitments at WVU. He arrived during the COVID season in 2020 but saw limited game action, completing three passes on four attempts for 24 yards and rushing for 40 yards on six attempts.
He would spend 2021 as the backup, seeing significantly more playing time. That season, he was 16-of-26 passing for 147 yards and added 297 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
In 2022, serving as JT Daniels’s backup, Greene saw even more action and eventually made his first career start. Greene came on in relief of Daniels against Oklahoma and helped lead the Mountaineers to a victory. He retained the starting role for the final two games, losing one to ranked Kansas State and defeating Baylor.
Greene won the full-time starter job prior to the 2023 season and had a standout year. He passed for 2,406 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 772 yards and 13 touchdowns. Helping lead West Virginia over UNC, he was named Duke’s Mayo Bowl MVP. Last season, he was an All-Big 12 Conference Fourth Team (Phil Steele) and All-Big 12 Conference Honorable-Mention Honoree (Coaches).
This season, Greene returned to the starting quarterback role. He dealt with an injury that kept him sidelined for two games but returned last week against Baylor.
Greene was named to the academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2021, 2022, and 2023. He earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management in December 2023 and is currently working on his master’s degree in business administration.
