Neal Brown Shares Update on Traylon Ray

It was a scary moment for West Virginia on Saturday against Baylor when sophomore wide receiver Traylon Ray went down in the third quarter with a leg injury.

Surrounded by teammates and medical staff, Ray was carted off the field with an air cast on. WVU head coach Neal Brown spoke about Ray on Monday.

“We’re going to miss him. I think that by the time Traylon’s career is done here, he’s going to be a really high-level player and I really think the NFL is in his future,” Brown said of Ray.

While Ray will be out for the rest of the season, Brown sees it as just a “minor setback” for the young receiver.

“This is a minor setback. He’ll make a full recovery; that’s the good news. It looked bad, but he’s going to make a full recovery,” Brown said.

Ray underwent surgery on Sunday and has been back in the facility in good spirits. Brown emphasized that the team will miss Ray on the field. Ray was the Mountaineers’ leading receiver heading into Saturday’s game.

“He’s in good spirits,” Brown said. “So, we’ll miss him. It’s not one of these things where we’re not going to miss him; we’ll miss him.”

As previously mentioned, West Virginia will be without Ray for the final two games of the regular season and a possible bowl game. The sophomore wide receiver’s road to recovery may be long, but he’ll eventually make a full recovery and return to playing, as Brown noted.
