West Virginia wide reciever Traylon Ray suffered a lower-body injury in the third quarter of a loss to Baylor.
Ray was carted off the field with an air cast on. After the game, WVU head coach Neal Brown, quarterback Garrett Greene and linebacker Reid Carrico spoke about the injury.
“Traylon’s injury, it wasn’t good. I mean y’all can see it. We don’t need to talk about it. But it wasn’t good and it not only hurt us because he was winning a lot, but it hurt us emotionally. We had some guys that really struggled with that,” Brown said. “He’ll recover, he’ll be fine, but he won’t play this year.”
Greene, who is from the same area as Ray, addressed the situation before he would answer a question.
“Before I answer that, I just want to give my thoughts and prayers out to Traylon. Everyone kind of saw what happened, what transpired. So, just thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” Greene said.
Carrico, who was on the sideline, shared his perspective.
“You don’t want to see any of your teammates get hurt, especially T-Ray, because T-Ray works so dadgum hard. I mean it really sucks, but I mean it’s part of the game, some guys are going to get going to get hurt. I don’t have any update on him or anything like that but I hope he’s doing good,” Carrico said.
In the game, Ray had three catches for 22 yards and a touchdown. He was coming off of a productive season as a freshman in 2023, and coming into the game, he was the Mountaineers’ leading receiver.
