West Virginia took home a 31-24 win on the road against Cincinnati Saturday afternoon, improving their Big 12 record.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Nicco Marchiol reflected on the road win and spoke on his relationship with fellow quarterback Garrett Greene following his third career start, the second consecutive this season. In the victory, Marchiol was responsible for both of WVU’s offensive touchdowns, one passing and one rushing.
“When you’re traveling with 70 of your best friends and you’re all staying in a hotel together and eating all these meals together, you know these are the ones you remember,” Marchiol said.
The Mountaineers now have a 5-4 overall record, 4-2 in conference play and only one loss on the road. Marchiol stressed the importance of the team’s ability to win on the road, saying it shows a sense of “maturity” among them.
The young quarterback also mentioned how Greene, a senior, is a huge mentor to him. Greene has been sidelined since the first half of a loss to Kansas State on Oct. 19 due to injury but was available against Cincinnati as an emergency quarterback.
“He is such a role model for me and such a good reflection of what the WVU quarterbacks are. That’s my guy,” Marchiol said.
The Mountaineers return home this Saturday to take on Baylor at 4:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
