WVU’s defensive coordinator was named the Big-12’s defensive coordinator of the week on Matt Zenitz’s weekly coordinators of the week list.
In his first game after taking over for Jordan Lesly, Jeff Koonz had West Virginia’s defense playing a brand of football that hasn’t been seen much this year.
In his debut as defensive coordinator, the defense allowed 24 points while recording three turnovers, including two defensive touchdowns by Safety Anthony Wilson and Linebacker Tyrin Bradley. The defense also had three sacks.
WVU had three games remaining against Baylor, UCF, and Texas Tech, who all have high-powered offenses. With an outside chance at making the Big-12 title game, Koonz must continue to have the defense playing at the level they did against Cincinnati to give West Virginia the best chance to win.
WVU will host Baylor on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 4:00 pm EST. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
