Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule mentioned that West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen will take over as coordinator and call plays for the Cornhuskers, when he addressed the media on Monday.
Holgorsen was hired by Nebraska last week as an offensive consultant. Less than a week after joining Rhule’s staff, he receives a promotion.
Nebraska is coming off a bye week after losing three straight games. They’ll travel to take on USC this week in Holgorsen’s first game calling plays.
Holgorsen was previously at Houston as their head coach from 2019-2023. After a 4-8 season, in their first season in Big 12 last year, he was fired by Houston.
Holgorsen coached West Virginia from 2011 to 2018. He had a 41-21 overall record, went 2-5 in bowl games, and had the Mountaineers ranked as high as No. 5 in the AP poll. He left WVU after the 2018 season to take the Houston job.
