West Virginia University safety Anthony Wilson Jr. was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Wilson, a redshirt senior, posted one of his best games as a Mountaineer this past weekend and earned praise for his success. He has spent the past two seasons in Morgantown, playing a vital role in the WVU secondary.
In Week 11 against Cincinnati, Wilson recorded 11 total tackles (six solo, five assisted). He scored what was arguably the game’s most significant momentum shift: a 79-yard pick-six that tied the game early in the second quarter. Up to that point, the WVU offense had struggled to gain traction, making Wilson’s interception a crucial play.
It was Wilson’s first career pick-six and his first interception since Oct. 21, 2023, against Oklahoma State. His 11 tackles also set a season high.
He shares the award this week with Kansas cornerback Mello Dotson.
