WVU Well Represented in Sun Belt Honors

The regular season Sun Belt champion West Virginia Mountaineers, recieved multiple Sun Belt Awards, including three major awards.

Forward/Midfielder Sergio Ors Navvaro was named the conference’s Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year. This season he scored 28 points, with 12 goals, which lead the league, and four assists. He is the third ever Mountaineer to win conference honors for Player of the Year, the first since WVU has been in the Sun Belt.

Head coach Dan Stratford was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year. On top of his Mountaineers wining the Sun Belt regular season title, he coached his team to a 10-1-6 record, undefeated in conference play with a 5-0-4 record. In addition to that, West Virginia was ranked No. 1 for the first time in program history this season.

Midfielder Ryan Baer and defender Max Broughton were named to the All-Sun Belt First Team, along with Ors Navvaro. Forward Marcus Caldiera and goalkeeper Marc Bonnaire were named to the second team.

The top-seeded Mountaineers will be playing in the quarterfinal matchup of the Sun Belt Championhsip on Sunday against Georgia Southern. With WVU hosting the tournament, kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 3 p.m EST.
