On Tuesday, the West Virginia men’s soccer team traveled south to take on Marshall for their regular season finale in a matchup with significant implications.
With a 0-0 draw, WVU became regular season Sun Belt champions. West Virginia is ranked No. 1 in the conference, with Marshall just behind at No. 2.
Marshall dominated offensively at home with 20 shots, while West Virginia only saw 7. Senior Frederik Jorgensen and graduate student Ryan Baer each played the entire game, putting up one shot each. Marshall seniors Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos and Tarik Pannholzer played the whole 90 minutes, putting up three shots each.
WVU goalkeeper Marc Bonnaire had three saves. Marshall goalkeeper Dan Rose had two saves. The Mountaineers received three yellow cards, while the Herd only had two. Neither team faced ejections.
The Mountaineers are now 10-1-6 (5-0-4 in the Sun Belt) and will play Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the first game of the conference championship tournament, which will be held in Morgantown.
