Deuce Shines in NBA Season Opener

There was no rust to knock off for former Mountaineer Miles ‘Deuce’ McBride in the opening game of the season.

The reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics, coached by another former Mountaineer, Joe Mazzulla, hosted the New York Knicks on Tuesday in the first game of the 2024-2025 season. Despite the loss, McBride, the fourth-year guard, had himself a game to kick off his new campaign following the breakout season he had last year.

Coming off the bench, Deuce had 22 points and two assists in 26 minutes. He shot eight of 10 from the floor, including four of five from three and hitting two of three free throw attempts.

McBride’s career-high was 29 points against the Golden State Warriors on March 18 of this year. Deuce and the Knicks will take on the Indiana Pacers on Friday in their next contest. The Pacers knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
