MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Oct. 15, 2024) – Junior Marcus Caldeira of the No. 4 West Virginia University men’s soccer team has been named the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week.
Caldeira scored two goals in a 4-2 win at Georgia Southern on Friday, Oct. 11, with his second goal proving to be the game-winner. The victory helped the Mountaineers stay atop the Sun Belt standings and keep WVU unbeaten, one of just two unbeaten squads in the country.
The Mississauga, Ontario native is the third Mountaineer to take home the Sun Belt honor this season after graduate students Sergio Ors Navarro and Simon Carlson swept the first two awards of the year.
Overall, Caldeira is the sixth WVU player to earn Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week in the last three seasons since joining the conference. That includes Caldeira earning the honor on Sept. 12, 2023, as well.
West Virginia will be back on the pitch tonight at Dayton for the final non-conference match of the season. Kickoff from Baujan Field is set for 7 p.m. ET.
