The infamous “KenPom” rankings were released earlier this week for the upcoming 2024-25 NCAA men’s basketball season.
The rankings evaluate the team’s predicted offensive and defensive efficiencies while incorporating the team’s tempo, luck, and strength of schedule.
The preseason rankings last year had the two finalists, UConn and Purdue in the top 4 (Purdue #1, UConn #4).
This year, West Virginia is ranked No. 86, 22 spots lower than in the preseason last year, when they were ranked No. 64.
14 out of the 15 Big 12 opponents are ranked higher than West Virginia; the only one who is not is Oklahoma State, who is ranked No. 89.
The Mountaineers open their season in an exhibition matchup against the University of Charleston (DII) this Friday at 7 p.m. EST. Their season officially starts against Robert Morris at home on Nov. 4.
