No. 11 Iowa State, 5-0, will be on the road this week as they take on West Virginia.
After a disappointing start to the season, the Mountaineers have gotten back on track and began conference play 2-0. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell credited West Virginia for what they have going on.
“They have a phenomenal team. They’ve got one of the greatest fanbases in the country in terms of the pride that they have for their Mountaineers,” Campbell said of West Virginia.
As a team, Campbell acknowledged the excitement around WVU and expressed his expectation of a lively environment on Saturday.
“A really special team that they have going on too right now. They’ve got a lot to be excited about,” Campbell said. “It will be a really really great football environment. I think again, this is why you play college football, to play in games like this and moments like this and certainly play on a stage like this.”
Campbell highlighted West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene and explained what he thinks had made them a successful team at the start of their conference schedule.
“They’re a really good football team, and I think it all starts for them; they’ve got an elite quarterback (Greene). I mean, he’s talented, he’s tough, he’s gritty, and I think every game that he has played in since he’s been the quarterback at West Virginia, they’ve had a chance to win,” Campbell said.” I really just think they played great team football to be quite honest with you over the last couple weeks and really played that way all season have had chances to win every one of the games they played.”
Dubbed the Coal Rush game, Saturday’s matchup will be televised on FOX and kickoff at 8 p.m. EST.
