West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott detailed the game plan that led to the dominant rushing attack on Saturday.
Sophomore running back Jahiem White had a massive game against Oklahoma State, tallying 158 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. That was a season-high in carries and yards for White.
“We did a better job of getting him the ball early,” WVU offensive coordinator Chad Scott said when talking about Jahiem White and the game plan Saturday.
The Mountaineers established a dominant run game early against an Oklahoma State team that has struggled to stop the run all season. The offense tallied 389 rushing yards as a team.
“Exactly what he did in the game is how he’s been practicing for the last two weeks,” Chad Scott said of White.
Jahiem White forced 11 missed tackles in Week 6, the most among running backs in Week 6. White was also given an 86.4 PFF grade, which ranked him second among power four running backs.
Finding ways to get White the ball and get him in open space to make guys miss appears to become a main focal point in the Mountaineers’ offense moving forward.
“Find ways to get him free and get him the ball,” Chad Scott said.
Jahiem White and the Mountaineers will host No. 11 Iowa State on Saturday in the team’s “Coal Rush” game at 8:00 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on FOX.
