Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia Preview

West Virginia takes on Oklahoma State on the road Saturday.

Heading into Week 6, Oklahoma State is 3-2 (0-2 in the conference). West Virginia is 2-2 (1-0 in the conference).

The Cowboys are coming off back-to-back losses, both to ranked and Big 12 opponents in Kansas State and Utah. Their three wins this season have come against Arkansas, Tulsa and South Dakota State (FCS).

OSU quarterback Alan Bowman is in his seventh season. When he was at Texas Tech, he faced West Virginia and Will Grier. This season, Bowman has thrown for 1,537 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions, completing 60% of his passes.

Ollie Gordon III, Oklahoma State’s runningback and a Heisman favorite entering this season has gotten off to a slow start compared to what most may have expected. He’s rushed for 344 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards per carry. 126 yards and three of his touchdowns came against South Dakota State.

Gordon took over in the fourth quarter in Oklahoma State’s 48-32 win over West Virginia last season. He had 282 yards and four touchdowns, three of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma State’s defense is among the best in the Big 12 in many facets. In terms of turnovers, an area where they excel, they have six interceptions, two forced fumbles and recoveries.

West Virginia is fresh off a bye week after a gritty win over Kansas in Week 4. They are led by quarterback Garrett Greene.

Greene has thrown for 902 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions, completing 56.8% of his passes. On the ground, Greene has added 209 yards and two touchdowns.

WVU’s defense has struggled at the beginning of the season. The secondary has been a concern, with West Virginia ranked No. 110 in passing yards per game allowed at 256.6. It wasn’t until their last game that they got their first interception of the season.

ESPN Analytics’ Matchup Predictor favors Oklahoma State, giving them a 65.4% likelihood of defeating WVU.

The game will kickoff at 4 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.
