No. 7 West Virginia Defeats UCF at Home

The No.7-ranked West Virginia men’s soccer team defeated UCF 2-1 at Dick Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown on Saturday.

The Mountaineers got out to an early lead in the fifth minute when Sergio Ors Navarro scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season, assisted by Max Broughton.

The Knights would answer in the 20th minute with a goal of their own, scored by Emmanuel Bam, assisted by Sam Nyenka.

It wasn’t until after halftime that the tie would be broken. West Virginia had the last score of the game from one of their goal-leader last season, Marcus Caldeira.

UCF had three shots on goal with WVU keeper Marc Bonnaire making two saves. West Virginia had seven shots on goal.

Each team was assessed two yellow cards: Otto Ollikainen and Ryan Baer for the Mountaineers and Ousmane Ba and Yanis Belatrache for UCF.

WVU remains unbeaten in 2024 with a record of 6-0-3 (2-0-1 in Sun Belt). On Friday, Oct.11, they’ll travel to take on conference opponent Georgia Southern in their next contest.
