The Big 12 kicks off Week 6 with some crucial in-conference and out-of-conference matchups. Let’s take a look at the other matchups besides West Virginia vs. Oklahoma State.
Houston at TCU
The Big 12 kicks off Week 6 on Friday night when the TCU Horned Frogs take on the Houston Cougars. TCU stands at 3-2 overall (1-1 in conference), while Houston has struggled, starting the year with a 1-4 record (0-2 in conference). TCU won this matchup last year, 36-13. Houston has yet to score a point in Big 12 play, getting shut out by Cincinnati and Iowa State. TCU picked up a big win last week against Kansas after losing the week before to SMU. The Horned Frogs are currently 16.5-point favorites. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Prediction: TCU wins 35-17.
Baylor at Iowa State
Baylor goes on the road to take on the No. 16-ranked Cyclones. The Bears are 2-3 overall (0-2 in conference), while Iowa State remains undefeated at 4-0 (1-0 in conference). Last year, Iowa State won this matchup 30-18. The Cyclones are currently 11.5-point favorites. The game in Ames, Iowa, is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET, under the lights for a “white out.” Iowa State is attempting to start 5-0 for the first time since 1980, while Baylor looks to secure its first Big 12 win of the season.
Prediction: Iowa State wins 30-17.
UCF at Florida
UCF heads north for an out-of-conference, in-state battle against the Florida Gators. UCF suffered its first loss last weekend against a Colorado team that put up 48 points on the road. The Golden Knights sit at 3-1 overall (1-1 in conference), while the Gators are 2-2 (1-1 in conference). UCF looks to bounce back with a win over an SEC team, while Florida desperately needs a victory as it faces a challenging schedule ahead. Five of the Gators’ next seven opponents are currently ranked in the top 15. UCF is a 2.5-point road favorite. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. ET at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, “The Swamp.”
Prediction: Florida wins 31-27.
Kansas at Arizona State
Kansas heads to Tempe for a Big 12 matchup. Kansas came into the season ranked No. 22 in the preseason poll and jumped three spots to No. 19 after a Week 1 win against Lindenwood. However, the Jayhawks have lost four straight since then, including two conference losses to West Virginia and TCU. On the other hand, Arizona State started the season 3-0 but lost on the road last week to Texas Tech. The Sun Devils are looking for their first Big 12 win. Arizona State is currently a 3-point favorite, indicating a close contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
Prediction: Kansas wins 24-21.
Texas Tech @ Arizona
This is probably the best matchup in the Big 12 this week, as both teams are undefeated in conference play. Texas Tech is 4-1, coming off a shootout win against Cincinnati. Their lone loss came in Week 1 against Washington State. Arizona had its best win of the year last week, beating No. 10-ranked Utah to improve to 3-1. Their only loss was to current No. 20-ranked Kansas State in Week 3. Arizona is a 6.5-point favorite. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET.
Prediction: Arizona wins 35-27
