Things are heating up as we enter Week 6 of the college football season.
The Mountaineers are 2-2 (1-0 in Big 12) and coming off a bye week. They’ll have eight more regular-season games, all against conference opponents.
With the Big 12 looking more tightly contested than ever, let’s look at WVU’s remaining strength of schedule and other important probabilities/rankings according to ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index) and compare it to others in the conference.
The FPI ranks WVU at No. 51, with a strength of record at No. 63 in the nation. Their two wins have come against UAlbany (FCS) and Kansas. They are now 1-4 (0-2 in the Big 12).
West Virginia’s remaining strength of schedule is No. 44, the third toughest in the Big 12 behind Arizona State, No. 42, and Cincinnati, No. 43. The Mountaineers remaining opponents are Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Arizona, Cincinnati, Baylor, UCF, and Texas Tech.
WVU is given a 3.1% chance to win the conference, 1.2% to make the playoffs, and 0.1% to win out. Their projected wins are 5.4-6.7.
