After an exciting 32-28 comeback win over the Jayhawks, WVU Football Head Coach, Neal Brown, spoke to the media Monday afternoon during the team’s first of two bye weeks this season.
While there were a lot of positive things for the coach to point out, he made it very clear he is still unhappy with a non-pass interference call that led to a Garrett Greene interception, one of two the quarterback threw on the day.
“I thought that was clearly pass interference and I watched it over and over and it is pass interference.”
It was the first of two interceptions for Greene on the day. The other came later in the game when Greene was once again looking for an open Ray down the field but got hit as he threw the ball, causing an under thrown pass to be intercepted.
However, there were still a lot of positives in the passing game according to Brown, including the wide receivers’ ability to win one-on-one matchups against the secondary. Brown said the receivers “won a lot,” but the non-called pass interference is one of the times the receiver did not win that still stands out.
“Traylon Ray really got grabbed egregiously on the interception. That one sticks at to you as not winning but it’s hard when they have the back of your collar.”
As for Greene who threw two interceptions in back-to-back weeks, his total on the year is already at four. That matches his interception total from the entire season a year ago.
Nonetheless, Brown, Greene, and the entire team will take the results to get back to 2-2 heading into a bye week. The extra week gives the team plenty of time to rest up after having numerous injuries against Kansas before traveling for their first Big 12 road game of the season.
The Mountaineers will have one of their toughest tests of the seasons taking on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Game time is officially set for 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 5.
