Josiah Trotter Named Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week

Redshirt freshman Josiah Trotter has been named the Shaun Alexander Player of the Week for his performance in West Virginia’s Week 3 win over Kansas.

The honors are presented by the Maxwell Football Club, which also awards the annual Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Year award. Pittsburgh’s quarterback Eli Holstein received the honors last week.

Trotter, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker who redshirted last season partially due to injury, has gotten out to a strong start in his Mountaineer career. In the win over Kansas, he was West Virginia’s leading tackler with 11 total (six solo).

So far this season, Trotter ranks second on WVU with 28 total tackles (14 solo); he also has half a sack and a pass defended.
