Brown Credits Garrett Greene’s Competitiveness

Following a 32-28 victory over Kansas on Saturday, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown spoke on his quarterback, Garrett Greene’s performance.

“Garrett [was] up and down until it was winning time and at winning time, he won. And that’s what he is. He’s a winner. He’s an elite competitor,” Brown said.

Early in the game, Greene threw two interceptions and struggled at times to consistently pick up completions and move the ball downfield. However, in the fourth quarter, when the game was on the line, Greene showed up making magic with his arm and his legs.

“I may coach for a long time and may never have another guy that’s as competitive as he is. And [he] has the ability to make plays with his feet and especially in two-minute situations. So I’m proud of him,” Brown said of Greene.

Down 11 points with under six minutes to play, Greene curated two scoring drives for the Mountaineers. The first ended with a touchdown pass to Kole Taylor and the other was what turned out to be a game-winning touchdown pass to Rodney Gallagher.

In the end, Greene was 15 of 30 passing the ball for 295 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. On the ground, he added 87 yards on 17 attempts and another touchdown, leading WVU to a late win.

The Mountaineers are on a bye week, and then they will travel to take on Oklahoma State as they continue Big 12 play.
