West Virginia redshirt junior wide reciever Preston Fox was “banged up” in a loss to Pitt last week.
Head coach Neal Brown gave an update on Fox during his radio show on Thursday, before the team’s first Big 12 game against Kansas this weekend.
“Preston’s been banged up a little bit this week,” Brown said. “He’ll be a game-time decision.”
Fox, a hometown product from Morgantown, began his career at WVU as a walk-on before earning a scholarship and becoming a starter. He has been returning punts for West Virginia for two years now and is one of those atop the depth chart at receiver.
Last season, he had 368 yards and two touchdowns on 26 catches. This season, he has four catches for 58 yards. Two of those catches and 41 yards came against Penn State in week one.
If Fox is unable to go on Saturday, Brown said that Rodney Gallagher will return punts.
“If Preston can go, he’ll do it (return punts). If he can’t, then Rodney (will),” Brown said. “Rodney’s been the backup for two years now.”
West Virginia vs. Kansas will be televised on ESPN2 with kickoff scheduled for noon EST.
