Becht Inducted into WVU Sports Hall of Fame, Delays Morgantown Visit

Former West Virginia tight end Anthony Becht is one of eight individuals being inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday. However, he won’t be in Morgantown for the scheduled induction.

In a video posted to social media Monday, Becht explained that he had to delay his visit to WVU on Saturday because he could not get everyone he wanted there. He will send a video that will be played though.

Becht played for West Virginia from 1996 to 1999. During his collegiate career, he had 83 receptions for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He was drafted in the first round, No. 27 overall, of the 2000 NFL draft by the New York Jets. His NFL career spanned 11 years with five different teams, catching 21 touchdowns in his NFL career.

Since then, Becht has remained involved in the game. He is the head coach of the UFL’s St.Louis Battlehawks and was a college football analyst for ESPN.

Becht explained that he will be in Morgantown on Oct. 12, when his son Rocco, Iowa State quarterback, plays the Mountaineers. Rocco Becht was a three-star quarterback recruit in the class of 2022, coming out of Wiregrass Ranch High School in Florida, he was not offered by the Mountaineers.

In the video, Becht also expressed his love and admiration for Mountaineer fans while extending his appreciation to Wren Baker.
