Brown Credits Nicco Marchiol’s Performance

Although the sample size was small, West Virginia head coach Neal Brown was very satisfied with backup quarterback Nicco Marchiol’s performance.

Marchiol saw time midway through the fourth quarter and put together a scoring drive for the Mountaineers. He completed all three of his pass attempts for 12 yards and capped the drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown.

“I was really proud of Nicco (Marchiol). I thought he had a nice drive there. I wanted to get him two or three more (drives), but again, it was just kind of an odd game. It was really fast.”

Marchiol, a redshirt sophomore, has been with WVU since 2022. He came in for an injured Garrett Greene in the Backyard Brawl last season and helped lead the Mountaineers to a victory while starting and beating Texas Tech in their next game.

“I was proud of him because I thought he was really efficient,” Brown said. “And how he navigated, he had a really tough read on his touchdown run and he made the right decision.”

Marchiol also came in against Penn State in week one during the fourth quarter but threw an interception. In his career, he’s played in 13 games completing 37 passes on 70 attempts for 320 yards and three touchdowns, while adding 185 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
