In case you missed it, during his Morgantown/WVU show on Friday, Pat McAfee kept making his argument for retiring Mountaineer Legend, quarterback Pat White’s number.
White co-hosted the show along with fellow former Mountaineer Owen Schmitt and the rest of McAfee’s usual cast. West Virginia’s athletic director, Wren Baker, was one of the guests.
Towards the end of Baker’s time on stage, McAfee brought up the possibility of retiring White’s No. 5 to Baker.
“I love Pat (White). Definitely, that is something that needs to be considered, it will for sure,” Baker said. “We love you man.”
White helped revolutionize the quarterback position in college football as a true dual-threat. He played at West Virginia from 2005-2008, winning four consecutive bowl games.
White passed for over 6,000 yards and 56 touchdowns while rushing for 4,480 yards and 47 touchdowns during his college career. He also accumulated various honors and awards, representing the old gold and blue.
Now, nearly 20 years after this first game under center for WVU, fans and former teammates are calling for his number to be retired, coining the phrase ‘Retire5.’
