Jordan Lesley’s View on UAlbany

Looking forward after a 34-12 loss to Penn State, West Virginia, defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley was asked what he sees for UAlbany’s offense as they prepare for their upcoming game.

“Obviously a team that’s won a lot of games. They know how to win. They’re very well-coached. They do a good job with just how far along I am with them. Especially in the run game, they know who to block, and they very simply do what they do and they’re good at it,” Lesley said.

UAlbany began their season 1-0 after defeating LIU 27-21 at home. Last season, the Great Danes finished first in the Colonial Athletics Association.

Their running back, Griffin Woodell, was the CAA offensive player of the year and an FCS freshman All-American. He had 892 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 183 attempts last season.

“Good player has good vision, is patient in their scheme and you can tell he understands their scheme and so he’s a good player,” Lesley said on Woodell.

Albany also has a slot receiver who transferred from Oregon, Seven McGee.

“They’ve got a slot receiver, that’s (going to) be the fastest kid on the field when we’re on when we’re on defense, good player,” Lesley said on McGee. “He looks like that on video and I’m sure they find some ways creative ways to get him the ball in the run game and the pass game. So, (it’ll) be a challenge. They again they’re good at what they do they obviously know how to win and have done it for a long time, good football team.”

Looking to bounce back from Penn State, Lesley spoke on making corrections and not losing faith in his team.

“We got to make the corrections. We got to do it. We got to play better within our job, no matter what the situation is and no matter if we’re playing Albany or Alabama. You know so, I’m not discouraged at all about this group,” Lesley said. “We got another opportunity this week, we only get 11 more of them guaranteed. Whatever happens after that is how well we do in those 11. And so that’s all, that’s where all my mind is on. You know we can’t change anything from Saturday we had our shot we didn’t play well move on.”

The Mountaineers host UAlbany on Saturday with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. EST and the game streaming on ESPN+.
