Fatorma Mulbah’s Unique Journey to College Football

Fatorma Mulbah, a Former Penn State and current Mountaineer defensive lineman from Liberia has had quite the journey to college football.

Fatorma Mulbah, who grew up in Liberia, moved to the United States in 2014. His father worked for the Coast Guard and was able to win a lottery to move his family to the United States.

Mulbah grew up knowing nothing about football. When he moved to Hershey, Pennsylvania, the head coach quickly recruited him to his high school football team.

“I remember my first play very vividly, I had no idea what I was doing” Mulbah said.

He also wrestled in high school to “stay in shape” for football season. By gaining different wrestling skills, like learning how to use leverage and be the lower man, he was able to leave high school as a three-star recruit. He originally committed to Penn State, where he played for two years before transferring to WVU.

Some reasons he chose West Virginia, included the culture and still being close enough to his family so they can see his games because he’s a family man. In 2023, during his first year in the old gold and blue, Mulbah played in all 13 games, finishing with 25 total tackles (10 solo), including three tackles-for-loss and half a sack.

Mulbah suited up for the Mountaineers in a 34-12 loss to his former team, Penn State. In a press conference on Monday, Mulbah said there were issues with the amount of pressure generated on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. He also said that smaller issues like alignment and communication are things that the defensive line as a whole could’ve been better at.

“We’re gonna get back to work and try to put more pressure on the QB,” Mulbah said. “We’re going to be ready.”
