Mountaineers in the NFL: Preseason Week 3

As the NFL preseason comes to an end, West Virginia was well-represented around the league in the preseason finale, with some notable alumni suiting up for their teams.

In the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 24-17  loss to the Detroit Lions, former WVU and current Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr recorded three total tackles,  two solo and one assisted. Meanwhile, teammate and former West Virginia center Zach Frazier was the fourth highest-graded Steeler, receiving a 76.4 PFF grade (min. 10 snaps).

Second-year New York Giants wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton, who missed all of his rookie year due to a torn ACL, recorded one catch for five yards on two targets with a fumble in the Giants’ preseason finale loss against the New York Jets.

Current Baltimore Ravens CB Daryl Worley, entering his ninth professional season, recorded four solo tackles in Baltimore’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. He finished the preseason with seven solo tackles.

A pair of former Mountaineer quarterbacks were featured in the preseason finale for their respective teams. Geno Smith completed four of five pass attempts for 62 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Cleveland Browns. Philadelphia Eagles QB Will Grier completed four of his six pass attempts for 16 yards in a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

As the Denver Broncos completed an undefeated preseason with a win over the Arizona Cardinals, former WVU wide receiver David Sills V had two receptions on two targets for 38 yards.

The NFL regular season will kick off next Thursday, Sept. 5, at 8:20 pm EST when the Ravens travel to face the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.
