Former WVU pitcher wins South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week

Pittsburgh Pirates fourth round pick and former WVU pitcher Carlson Reed just wrapped up a breakout week in the minors.

The right-handed 2023 All-Big 12 First Team selection pitched six innings on Friday for Pittsburgh’s High-A affiliate the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Reed pitched a 4-0 win over the Asheville Tourists, his first in four games in August.

Greensboro’s conference, the South Atlantic League, announced Monday that Reed’s performance earned him Pitcher of the Week honors. Reed allowed one hit and one walk in the game with 10 strikeouts.

Reed and Greensboro will travel to Rome, Georgia this week for its penultimate series of the regular season.
