Monday, West Virginia men’s basketball coach Darian DeVries announced the hiring of Garrett Sturtz as the program’s Director of Men’s Basketball Operations.
Sturtz served as a graduate assistant for Drake last season under DeVries. He assisted in video operations, offseason player development, offseason player development, team operations and camp operations according to a press release.
Sturtz walked on at Drake in 2018 and played with the Bulldogs till 2023. He is the school’s all-time winningest player with 120 wins and leading rebounder with 917 boards.
On top of that, Sturtz has played the second most games all-time in NCAA Division I men’s basketball at 167 (73 starts). He finished with just under 1,400 points in his career.
“We are excited to have Garrett (Sturz) joining our staff here at West Virginia,” DeVries said. “As a former player and graduate assistant for me at Drake, he has a tremendous understanding of how we do things and will fit in great with our staff.”
