In its 2024 season opener, West Virginia kicked off the 2024-25 WVU Athletics season with a 2-0 win over Delaware inside Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Aug. 15. The Mountaineers (1-0) used tallies from junior forward Ajanae Respass and fifth-year senior midfielder Lilly McCarthy to earn the win. Respass, whose tally was assisted by senior Annika Leslie, was credited with the game-winning strike on her first West Virginia score.
In the final box score, WVU led the way in every category, including a 14-3 lead in shots. The Mountaineer defense held Delaware to zero corner kicks and just two shots on goal, while West Virginia notched six corners and placed seven of its 14 shots on frame.
Sunday’s matchup marks the fourth all-time meeting between West Virginia and Radford. The Mountaineers are undefeated against the Highlanders, boasting a 3-0 record. The Highlanders are coming off a 12-6-2 record in 2023, which included the program’s ninth Big South Tournament title and an automatic bid in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
