With a year under his belt in West Virginia’s defensive system, senior SPEAR Tyrin Bradley is beginning to feel a lot more comfortable and confident heading into 2024.
“This year I feel like I’m a lot more comfortable in the defense,” Bradley said Monday. “I feel like I know more so my job and the people around me.”
Bradley began his collegiate career with FCS Abilene Christian and transferred to WVU before last season. In 2023 with the Mountaineers, he played in 12 games recording 22 total tackles (14 solo), five tackles for loss, two-and-a-half sacks and came up with a impressive interception against UNC in the Mayo Bowl.
This year, another FCS transfer Ty French is entering his first season with WVU and will rotate with Bradley at the SPUR position. Bradley spoke about their relationship and how FBS differs from FCS.
“He’s a great guy. He has a high motor, extremely high motor. I talked to him yesterday (Sunday) we work off of each other, his strengths, my strengths, his weaknesses, my weaknesses,” Bradley said of French. ” I tell him all the time we joke about it like we used to run around guys at FCS level. You know it was a lot easier and so when you got guys that are getting to their spots a lot faster and they’re a lot stronger, you got to rely on your technique. And that’s been the biggest thing for him you know like I said he has a motor so he’s going to get home. He’s going to make plays naturally but you know when the talent level is equal to or greater than you, it’s what can you rely on. So really just been the big thing for him is just honing up his skills.”
In 2024, Bradley is looking to improve on his first season with the Mountaineers, while feeling more comfortable in the defense. As a guy who has been around college football for a while, he can be looked to as a veteran and leader to step up when it means most.
