WVU OL Coach Matt Moore Discusses ‘Next Step’ for Wyatt Milum

Entering the 2024 season, Wyatt Milum is the most highly regarded player on West Virginia’s offensive line, if not the whole roster.

Milum has started on the Mountaineer’s o-line since he was a freshman and has shown vast improvement up to this point. The senior from Kenova, West Virginia was named to the Outland Trophy preseason watchlist while also receiving multiple All-American and All-Big 12 nods from various outlets.

With Doug Nester and Zach Frazier now in the NFL, Milum will be looked to on the OL to be a leader and step up when it means most. WVU offensive line coach Matt Moore talked about what’s next for the left tackle on Wednesday.

“The next step for Wyatt (Milum) is being an elite pass protector off the edge,” Moore said. “That’s something he’s got to continue to work [on] and he’s really taken his game to the next level.”

When Penn State makes the trip down to Morgantown in week one, Milum will be challenged with a top defensive front in college football. West Virginia will look for Milum to hold down the edge on quarterback Garrett Greene’s blindside, giving them positive signs for the rest of the season.

“Week one he (Milum) is going to be challenged with one of the best pass rushers, if not the best pass rusher in college football this year, so that’s the next step we’re trying to take with him (becoming an elite pass protector),” Moore said.

Heading into his senior season, Milum looks to become a huge part in the Mountaineers’ offensive success and take that next step in becoming a top offensive tackle in the nation. With NFL scouts keeping close tabs on him, he wants to improve, impress and help his team win overall.

“He wants to be the best and he will do whatever you ask him to do to be the best,” Moore said of Milum.
