The Palm Beach Cardinals’ starting shortstop went yard earlier this afternoon for his first professional trip around the bases.
The Single-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals took on the Dunedin Blue Jays today. Wetherholt hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to give Palm Beach a 7-6 lead. The home run ended up deciding the game, as the Cardinals held on to win by a final score of 7-6.
Wetherholt’s home run was his only hit of the game, going 1-for-2 with a walk in this afternoon’s game. He currently has a .294 batting average and a 1.066 OPS.
