United Soccer Coaches releases polls regularly on the top collegiate teams in the nation. Their preseason poll ranked West Virginia as the #3 team in the nation, only trailing Clemson and Notre Dame.
The Mountaineers are also the highest ranked team from the Sun Belt Conference, as Marshall, James Madison and UCF all appear later in the Top 25. Kentucky also received votes, but did not crack the poll.
West Virginia earns this ranking coming off of a 17-3-4 season last year. Their season ended with a National Semifinals loss to the National Champions Clemson, the team now ranked at #1 on the United Soccer Coaches’ poll.
