WVU Football offensive coordinator Chad Scott took to the podium on Saturday to talk to the media about the progress the offense has made through the first week of Fall camp.
Scott was full of positive remarks of where the offense currently at and has been blown away by the amount of talent the team possess already this early in the year. He mentioned last year at this time they had a couple of guys but this year it seems to be the full team.
When asked what was making things work so well right now, Scott pointed to the fact that the team was doing the little things that allowed big plays to come, rather than forcing the issue and trying to make something out of nothing.
In the one area that Scott said the team could improve, it was scoring in the redzone. More specifically, the team needs to improve scoring touchdowns but Scott believes with some time, the team will get there.
After losing a couple key pieces to the offensive line including second round draft pick Zach Frazier, Scott still believes the offensive line is as good as ever. He mentioned about how great the chemistry is with the group up front not only with themselves but with whoever is back at quarterback behind them.
“We’re as great as those guys and they’re great right now. We got to keep them healthy.”
The other point Scott went into detail on about the team so far this camp was backup quarterback Nicco Marchiol. Last season, Marchiol was forced to play almost the entire Backyard Brawl and the Texas Tech game due to a Garrett Greene injury. He won both games.
This camp however, the coaching staff has gained full trust in Marchiol to run the exact same offense and game-plan. Scott pointed to last year having to change some things up and simplify some things while Marchiol played but Scott does not see that as an issue anymore wuth how much progress Marchiol has made.
