WVU Men’s Basketball Wins First Game in Italy

West Virginia defeated BC Zalgiris Kaunas by a final score of 78-53 earlier this afternoon.

While the first quarter was close with the score showing 18-15 after one, the Mountaineers found their stride in the second quarter. There, West Virginia outscored Zalgris 28-10 to go into halftime up 46 to 25.

Amani Hansberry achieved a double-double by the end of the third quarter, with 14 points and 10 rebounds entering the fourth. At the end of three, WVU led 73-29.

The Mountaineers let off the gas in the fourth quarter but still won by a 25-point margin. Coach Darian DeVries summarized the matchup in some post-game comments posted to social media:

Their second game in Italy will take place against Orange1 Bassano on August 6th at noon. Their final game against Stella#EBK will be at the same time on August 8th.
