Last season, Ben Cutter was a linebacker that went into the season mainly playing special teams and would see the field on defense to give the starters a quick breather. But when the opportunity presented itself to become a starter after an injury to Trey Lathan, Cutter took the most of it.
In his freshman season, Cutter was called on to start the last seven games of the season and quickly Cutter became one of the better players on the entire defense.
Playing Mike Linebacker, Cutter finished the season fourth on the team with tackles with 65 to go with two sacks, six tackles for loss, and and a pass breakup.
During the final game of the season at Baylor, the Denver N.C. native was awarded with the WVU defensive champion after finishing the game with a total of ten tackles, his season high on the year.
This upcoming season, Cutter’s role could potentially be even more important. With the anchor of last year’s defense Lee Kpogba graduating and leaving the team, someone will have to step up to replace the leading tacklers spot.
Trey Lathan will be coming back from his broken leg injury to start next to Cutter next season and the two young linebackers could be building something special in Morgantown for years to come.
