WVU junior and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Oliver Straw is earning preseason recognition at the highest level.

The 33-person watch list for the Ray Guy Award, awarded each year to the best collegiate punter in the game, was announced Friday, and Straw was named on the list. This is Straw’s second consecutive year on the watch list.

Straw has punted for West Virginia in 24 games across two seasons, including all 13 games in West Virginia’s 9-4 2023 season. Straw kicked 43 punts for 1,853 yards in 2023, averaging 43.1 yards per punt.

A Melbourne, Australia native, Straw has plenty of athletic experience in both Australian rules and American rules football as well as basketball. He trained with Prokick Australia, an organization that has produced five previous Ray Guy Award winners along with 17 All-American selections.
