The former West Virginia and Houston head coach could fill a consultant role for the Horned Frogs in the 2024 season.
After leaving the Mountaineers in 2018, Holgorsen coached the Houston Cougars from 2019 to 2023. After two consecutive seasons without winning more than four games, Houston would win 20 games between 2021 and 2022. However, Holgorsen was fired by Houston after a 4-8 season in 2023. It was also Houston’s debut season in the Big 12.
Holgorsen was replaced by former Tulane head coach Willie Fritz within five days of his firing. Fritz was given a five-year contract.
After appearing in the College Football Playoff in 2022, the Horned Frogs fell to 5-7 in 2023. Now, head coach Sonny Dykes looks to Dana Holgorsen, whom he worked alongside at Texas Tech from 2000 to 2006.
