WVU Defensive Starters as Recruits

West Virginia is just a few days away from fall camp and a little over a month away from week one of the 2024 season.

Head coach Neal Brown and staff have assembled a roster that will look to compete in this new era of college football and the Big 12. Some players have been added through the transfer portal, while WVU has recruited most of them out of high school. The following will examine how the Mountaineers’ defensive starters stacked up as high school recruits according to 247Sports Composite. 

Defensive Line

Sean Martin — Class of 2020

Three-Star

No. 1 overall recruit in West Virginia, No. 22 overall strong-side defensive end recruits and No. 515 overall recruit nationally.

Fatorma Mulbah — Class of 2020

Three-Star

No. 6 overall recruit in Pennsylvania, No. 70 overall defensive tackle recruit and No. 804 overall recruit nationally.

Edward Vesterinen — Class of 2021

Three-Star

No. 1 overall recruit in Finland, No. 159 overall defensive line recruit and No. 1343 overall recruit nationally.

Linebackers

Tyrin Bradley — Class of 2021

Unranked recruit.

Josiah Trotter — Class of 2023

Three-Star

No. 9 overall recruit in Pennsylvania, No. 44 overall linebacker recruit and No. 520 overall recruit nationally. 

Trey Lathan — Class of 2022

Three-Star

No. 42 overall linebacker recruit, No. 57 overall recruit in Florida and No. 457 overall recruit nationally. 

Secondary

Aubrey Burks — Class of 2021

Three-Star

No. 60 overall safety recruit, No. 98 overall recruit in Florida and No. 755 overall recruit nationally.

Ayden Garnes — Class of 2021

Unranked recruit.

Josiah Jackson — Class of 2023

Three-Star

No. 15 overall recruit in Ohio, No. 54 overall cornerback recruit and No. 528 overall recruit nationally. 

Anthony Wilson — Class of 2019

Two-Star

No. 76 overall recruit in South Carolina, No. 245 overall running back recruit and No. 3390 overall recruit nationally. 

Garnett Hollis — Class of 2020

Three-Star

No. 16 overall recruit in Tennessee, No. 45 overall cornerback recruit and No. 624 overall recruit nationally.
