Pitt HC Pat Narduzzi Loves Having Backyard Brawl on Schedule

The Pitt head coach also says that he’d like to renew their rivalry with Penn State.

Narduzzi also claims in the quote that Penn State “won’t play us” despite efforts from both universities to have a series played starting in 2026. However, Penn State’s 9 in-conference games make their scheduling much more difficult. Then Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour did not sign the proposal both schools had worked on, meaning the soonest they could play would be sometime after 2030.

West Virginia and Pittsburgh are currently playing a four game home-and-home series, with the teams each winning their first game hosting the Brawl. When the teams began playing each other again, it marked an end of an 11-year hiatus of Backyard Brawl football.

Penn State and Pittsburgh faced off most recently in 2019 to conclude a four game series. The Nittany Lions won three of those four games.
